Carl Maier & Cie

CMC , an acronym for Carl Maier & Cie , also Carl Maier, Factory of Electrical Apparatus , later changed to CMC Carl Maier & Cie. AG was a Swiss company that produced electrical switchgear and fuse systems for the high and low voltage sectors and was taken over by ABB in 1992 .

history

The original single company was on November 1, 1909 by Carl Maier in Schaffhausen founded in 1923 on the occasion of an equity investment of an engineer working for him since 1916 Ernst Hauser of 200,000 francs in the Carl Maier & Cie renamed and was among others on numerous projects of the Swiss Federal Railways , over decades, involved:

Project Gebrüder Maier

From 1922 onwards, the company devoted itself - at its own expense (15,000 francs) - to the "Legler project" by the hydraulic engineer Gottlieb Heinrich Legler (1823–1897) from 1891 and the study by Steiger from 1902 and transferred (in-house) to Emil Maier the development of a study on the regulation of the Untersee and the High Rhine between Constance and Schaffhausen which was published in 1924.

After the takeover in 1992, the company name was retained in the name of the CMC Low Voltage Products business unit of ABB Switzerland AG, which employs 280 people at the Schaffhausen site. The part formerly known as ABB CMC Systeme AG has been called ABB Low Voltage Power since 2000 , at that time it was producing in Lenzburg , Geneva and Oerlikon , had 150 employees and a turnover of over 50 million francs.

LOGA calculating disc rule

In addition to the manufacture and sale of electrotechnical products, the company manufactured the LOGA disk rule (also slider for motors) for three-phase asynchronous motors around 1960. The sheet metal calculating disc has sliding windows on the front from which you can read the required values. A scale in the upper area is used to indicate amperes / kVA. In addition, there are tables for motor protection switches on the back. The lettering is in German, French and Italian.
