Carl Röchling (* 25. February 1827 in Saarbrücken , † 26. May 1910 ) was a German Montan - entrepreneurs .

After attending grammar school in Saarbrücken, the son of a doctor completed an apprenticeship at the ironworks Karcher & Westermann in Metz , worked in Rotterdam and Le Havre and then became a partner in the coal and banking business C. Schmidtborn in Saarbrücken, which later evolved the company Gebr. Röchling developed. Röchling built the blast furnace in Pont-à-Mousson together with the Haldy brothers in the mid-1850s , founded the coke oven in Altenwald in 1852 and the gas factory in Saargemünd in 1860 .

In 1857 Carl Röchling married Alwine Vopelius . As a dowry, his wife received shares in the Hostenbach mine , which initially belonged to the Vopelius family. Carl took over management a short time later and was sole managing director from 1899 . The mine was then owned by the Röchling family, who used the coal for iron and steel production.

In 1881 he acquired the ironworks in Völklingen , which was expanded as a puddling and welding plant. In 1883 the first blast furnace was put into operation; The production of coke began in 1886 . Röchling had the Thomas steelworks built in 1890, and the Karlshütte near Diedenhofen in 1898 .

Carl and Alwine Röchling's marriage resulted in 14 children, including Hermann Röchling (1872–1955). On the Saarbrücken Triller , Carl Röchling had the builder Rahfeld build a villa and his own grave chapel in neo-Gothic style. In addition to Carl Röchling, 22 members of his family have been buried in the chapel to date.
