Carl Rehfus
Carl Johann Rehfus (* 1857 in Kehl ; † October 5, 1926 in Kehl), also known as Oberländer , was a German hunting writer and cynologist . The Rehfus family ran a hat factory in Kahllach in Kehl from 1867 to 1963.
Life
Together with Hegewald and other cynologists, Rehfus was the initiator of the association founded in 1891 for testing working dogs for hunting . With Hegewald he was also significantly involved in the basic breeding of the German wire hair and the new breed of the Poodle pointer . He wrote, among other things, guidelines for prospective Waidmänner as well as recommendations for experienced hunters and breeders.
Oberländer's books are now sought-after collector's items among hunting and literature collectors. Oberländer's eight major works were published by Neumann Neudamm by the end of the 1930s . Today they appear in a new edition by Godewind Verlag , Wismar . Since his death, the Villa Rehfus there on Rehfusplatz has been the seat of the competence center for cross-border and European issues .
Others
In 1903 Carl Rehfus shot a brown bear in Russia . He had the fur brought to Kehl and prepared the bear in Öhringen . The upright bear then stood in the Villa Rehfus in the evacuated Kehl until the Second World War . When the family returned in 1950, the bear was no longer there, but was found a short time later in a restaurant in Freistett . The bear, which had been damaged in the meantime, was restored and then stood for a long time in the foyer of the hat factory. It was stolen in 1980, but accidentally found again by the police during an apartment search. In 1991 the city of Kehl received the bear from the Rehfus family and placed it in the city library. There he was "cuddled" so much that he had to be restored by the Kehl town hall master and taxidermist Michael Jöst and finally found a new place in the local museum in Kehl.
