Carl Schenck (entrepreneur)
Carl Heinrich Johann Schenck (born November 14, 1835 in Herborn , † December 19, 1910 in Darmstadt ) was a German entrepreneur.
life and work
Carl Schenck was born in Herborn and attended high school in Wiesbaden . After studying mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic in Karlsruhe , at the age of 26, he married Anne, née Knorr, the daughter of a higher Hessian court clerk.
He initially worked as an engineer for Count Herbstein's estate administration, but soon wanted to become self-employed. Together with his commercial partner Carl Elsässer, he took over the company Johann Schweizer sen. in Mannheim and specialized in the construction of scales and small hoists .
On July 1, 1871, he founded the company Mannheimer Maschinenfabrik Schenck, Mohr and Elsässer in the Schwetzingen suburb of Mannheim. In 1881 he left the company which then advertised its product range under Mannheimer Maschinenfabrik, Mohr & Federhaff, formerly Mannheimer Maschinenfabrik, Schenck, Mohr & Elsaesser and founded the company Carl Schenck Eisengießerei & Waagenfabrik in Darmstadt .
His daughter Marie Luise Therese married the high school teacher Georg Büchner on July 14, 1892 in Darmstadt , who later ran the Carl Schenck company as managing director together with Emil Schenck .
Carl Schenck was buried in the old cemetery in Darmstadt (grave site: III G 53). He was married to Anna Christine Knorr (1841–1929) since 1866. The children Emilie (born 1862, emigrated to South Africa), Ludwig (1867-1893) and Marie Luise Therese (1873-1944) emerged from the marriage.
