Carl Schmelzer

Carl Heinrich Theodor Schmelzer (born April 18, 1834 in Berlin ; † October 6, 1898 in Zehlendorf , Schlachtensee ) was a German educator, politician and writer. (Pseudonym: Gottlieb Pfannekuchen)

Life

Carl Schmelzer attended high school in Halberstadt and studied history and classical philology in Berlin and Halle. In 1855 he became a member of the Corps Normannia Berlin . In 1856 he joined the Corps Borussia Halle . From July 1, 1861 to Easter 1865, he was vice principal of the Wilhelmsschule in Wolgast , and he was also a teacher at the secondary schools in Torgau and Guben , where he worked until 1869. In that year he was appointed director of the grammar school and secondary school 1st order in Prenzlau . On April 24, 1876, he was appointed director of the high school in Hamm in Westphalia . He retired at Easter 1895 because of a throat ailment and from then on lived in seclusion in Schlachtensee near Berlin. Between 1873 and 1876 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives in the constituency of Potsdam 3 (Prenzlau-Angermünde) for the national-liberal party. From 1888 to 1891 he was a member of the constituency Arnsberg 6 (Hamm, Soest). He published scientific, political and satirical writings. Johannes Trojan testifies that Schmelzer published the text Die neue Schildbürger under the pseudonym Gottlieb Pfannekuchen in 1895 and that he had made contributions to Kladderadatsch for many years , among other things. a. let him write the anti-Jesuit Novae epistolae obscurorum virorum in Latin .
