Carl Thomae (natural scientist)

Carl Thomae (also Karl Thomä , born January 9, 1808 in Dienethal , † June 4, 1885 in Wiesbaden ) was a German agricultural scientist and naturalist .

Life

Carl Thomae studied natural sciences, mathematics and history at the University of Bonn from 1832 and was awarded a doctorate in May 1835. phil. PhD. From 1835 to 1845 he taught at the ducal Nassau Agricultural Institute on the Geisberg farm near Wiesbaden. In 1839 he was appointed professor. Thomae was secretary of the Natural History Association in the Duchy of Nassau and director of the Natural History Museum in Wiesbaden . He later worked as a government official from 1849 to 1868 as director of the Agricultural Institute.

Carl Thomae was elected a member ( matriculation number 1529 ) of the Leopoldina on October 15, 1843 with the academic surname Polyergus .

He was a member of the Wetterau Society for all natural history in Hanau and from October 1835 a member of the Botanical Association on the Middle and Lower Rhine . In 1842 he became a corresponding member of the Senckenberg Natural Research Society and in 1851 an honorary member of the Natural History Association in the Duchy of Nassau . In 1855 he became president of the Agricultural Association in the Duchy of Nassau. Thomae was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle and the Order of Annen .
