Carl von Friesen (* 1551 in Kauern ; † July 25, 1599 in Altenburg ), to distinguish between bearers of the same name, also with the addition of Kauern and later Rötha , was a German manor owner , head chef , court marshal and governor .

Life

Carl von Friesen was the son of Stephan von Friesen (after 1504–1560) and his wife Sibylla, née von Bothfeld . He attended school in Neustadt , but did not go on to study, which he later regretted. At the age of about twenty he came to the Ansbach court and served the Margrave Georg Friedrich I of Brandenburg as court squire for four years. Then he went to France . After his return in 1577 he entered into the marriage with Rahel von Ende (1557-1619), which he had promised before the trip to France.

In 1588 he was appointed head chef at the Saxon court by Elector Christian I (1560–1591). After Christian's death in 1591, the court was dissolved and Friesen followed the call of Duke Johann III. to Altenburg, to which the offices of Altenburg , Eisenberg and Ronneburg were subordinate. As a Privy Councilor, he now acted as court marshal and governor for the three offices mentioned. He was twice an authorized representative at the Reichstag in Regensburg.

After he had sold the Kauern family estate, he acquired Rötha estate and castle in 1592 . With this he laid the foundation stone for the property of the Friesen family in Rötha, which has lasted over 350 years . This lasted until it was expropriated by the land reform in 1945 .

Two years before his death, Friesen fell seriously ill and also lost his eyesight. He died on July 25, 1599 and was transferred to Rötha for burial in the Georgenkirche after a memorial service in the Altenburg Castle Church .
