Carl von Seyffertitz
Carl (Karl) Maria Josef Leopold Freiherr von Seyffertitz (born February 17, 1825 in Siebeneich , Gft. Tirol ; † July 12, 1900 in Bregenz , pseudonym Max Vermunt ) was an old Austrian civil servant , politician and scientist .
Life
Carl von Seyffertitz comes from the officer family Seyffertitz , and was the first son of Carl Josef Freiherr von Seyffertitz (1781–1831), captain of the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger, and Rosa Countess von Wolkenstein-Rodenegg (1799–1844). He married Emilie Gysi (1828–1902) ), and had two daughters.
Carl von Seyffertitz completed a law degree at the University of Innsbruck from 1843 , and entered the civil service, where he worked at the Bregenz district office until 1860, and then left it again. As a liberal politician, he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1864–1868 , and also acted as deputy governor . From 1867 to 1870 he was mayor of Bregenz , but resigned. From 1865 he was a member of the Reichsrat , but also resigned from this office in 1868 in the course of the dispute over the revocation of the Concordat , which he supported with the circle around Franz Michael Felder , and left political life.
Since 1860 Carl von Seyffertitz had been deputy chairman of the Museum Association for Vorarlberg and correspondent of the Geological Reichsanstalt . In 1868 he was one of the founding members of the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings . After 1868 he devoted himself mainly to various meteorological, geological and historical studies, gave lectures and wrote travel descriptions.
Achievements and honors
From his time as a member of parliament, the request from 1867 to determine the community officials in a secret ballot. He also made an outstanding contribution to the establishment of the Valduna hospital (today LKH Rankweil).
In 1870 he became an honorary citizen of Bregenz.
