Carlo Schmid Foundation

The non-profit Carlo Schmid Foundation was founded in 1987 by Siegmar Mosdorf as a foundation under civil law to commemorate the politician who, as a member of the Parliamentary Council , helped shape the Basic Law and thus helped shape the post-war period in Germany .

The foundation is committed to Carlo Schmid's liberal-humanist tradition and promotes the democratic state in Germany by honoring people, groups or organizations who, through their life's work or publications, actions or actions, contribute to the maintenance or further development of the democratic and social constitutional state , the liberal political culture in Germany as well as for European understanding.

Sponsorship award

The foundation regularly awards the Carlo-Schmid Medal to a person or organization that has distinguished itself according to its statutory task. The prize consists of a replica of the bronze sculpture "Hyperion" by the sculptor Hans Scheib, which symbolizes progress, as well as prize money of 5000 euros. The award ceremony takes place as part of a festive event in the Mannheim Palace, which was recently attended by 250 guests.
