Carlo Roberti (* 1605 in Rome ; † February 14, 1673 there ) was an Italian archbishop and cardinal.

biography

Carlo Roberti was born in Rome in 1605 as a member of a patrician family. His last name is also listed as Roberto de 'Vittori . He completed his studies in philosophy and theology.

As papal prelate he was governor of several cities in the Papal States and from 1623 to 1644 governor, later vice governor, of Romagna. He was a trainee lawyer at the Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature . During the tenure of Pope Alexander VII he was General Commissioner of Rome.

His election as titular archbishop of Tarsus took place on December 2, 1658 with dispensation because he was not yet ordained a priest. The consecration took place on December 8, 1658 in Rome by Cardinal Giulio Rospigliosi . Cristoforo Segni , Titular Archbishop of Thessaloniki, and Marcantonio Oddi , Titular Bishop of Hierapolis acted as co-consecrators .

On December 24, 1658 he became nuncio in Savoy . On January 10, 1659 he became General Commissioner of the Principality of Masserani and on April 26, 1664 ordinary nuncio in France.

On February 15, 1666 he was appointed cardinal in pectore in the consistory by Pope Alexander VII . The publication in the consistory took place on March 7, 1667. In the same year he took part in the conclave in which Pope Clement IX. was chosen.

On July 18, 1667 received the red hat and the title of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli . His appointment as Apostolic Legate of Romagna took place on August 22, 1667. Roberti took part in the conclave from 1669 to 1670, which Pope Clement X elected.

Roberti died on February 14, 1673 at around 6 p.m. in Rome. His burial took place on February 16, 1673 in the chapel of San Sebastiano in the church of Sant'Andrea della Valle in Rome.
