Paolo Savelli

Paolo Francesco Savelli (born November 18, 1622 in Ariccia , † September 11, 1685 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the son of Bernardino Savelli and his wife Maria Peretti, a relative of Pope Sixtus V. Other members of the Savelli family were Pope Honorius IV and the cardinals Bertrando Savelli , Giovanni Battista Savelli , Giacomo Savelli and Silvio Savelli . Paolo Savelli was a great-nephew of Cardinal Giulio Savelli and nephew of Cardinal Fabrizio Savelli , as well as a maternal nephew of Cardinal Francesco Peretti di Montalto .

Already in his youth he showed an inclination for the spiritual class . He became Commendatabbot of Chiaravalle in Milan and a cleric in the Apostolic Chamber .

Pope Alexander VII accepted him in the consistory of January 14, 1664 as a cardinal deacon in the college of cardinals . Paolo Savelli received the red hat and Santa Maria della Scala as the title deaconry on February 11, 1664. From 1664 to 1667 he was a legate in the Romandiola. He took part in the conclave of 1667 , in which Pope Clement IX. was chosen. On January 14, 1669, he moved to the titular deaconry San Giorgio in Velabro . At the conclave 1669-1670 , from the Clement X emerged as Pope, Paolo Savelli also participated. On May 14, 1670, he moved to the titular deaconry San Nicola in Carcere . He was a participant in the 1676 conclave , the Innocent XI. elected to the Pope. On May 23, 1678 he moved back to the titular deaconry San Giorgio in Velabro . From 1678 until his death he was Commendatar- Archimandrite of Santissimo Salvatore in Messina . On November 15, 1683, he switched to the titular diaconia Santa Maria in Cosmedin .

Paolo Savelli died on September 11, 1685 at around 1 a.m. in Rome. He was buried in a tomb of his family in the Roman church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli .
