Fabrizio Savelli

Fabrizio Savelli (* 1607 in Rome ; † February 26, 1659 ibid) was Archbishop of Salerno and Cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the son of Paolo Savelli, Prince of Albano , and came from the Roman noble family Savelli , which had already belonged to Pope Honorius IV and the cardinals Bertrando Savelli , Giovanni Batistta Savelli , Giacomo Savelli and Silvio Savelli . He himself was a nephew of Cardinal Giulio Savelli and uncle of Cardinal Paolo Savelli . In his youth he received military training and later commanded the troops of the Papal States in various regional conflicts.

On September 15, 1642, he was appointed Archbishop of Salerno by Pope Urban VIII , on the dispensation that he had not yet received the ordination . He was ordained bishop on October 26, 1642 in Rome by Cardinal Alessandro Cesarini ; Co- consecrators were Francesco Gonzaga CR , Bishop of Cariati , and another bishop, not known by name. Fabrizio Savelli succeeded his uncle Giulio Savelli as Archbishop of Salerno and received the pallium on November 10, 1642 . Later he was nuncio in the Kingdom of Poland .

Pope Innocent X created him in the consistory of October 7, 1647 as cardinal priest Fabrizio Savelli received the red hat and the titular church of Sant'Agostino on December 16 of the same year. From January 15, 1648 he was legate in Bologna. He participated in the 1655 conclave , which Pope Alexander VII elected. He gave up the office of Archbishop of Salerno in 1658 and in the same year was Poland's envoy to the Holy See .

Fabrizio Savelli died on February 26, 1659 in Rome and was buried in the local church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli .
