Carlo Vanzina (born March 13, 1951 in Rome ; † July 8, 2018 ibid) was an Italian film director , screenwriter and film producer who has directed various genres in Italian cinema since 1976, including films such as Gelati and Amore (Sapore di mare ) , Via Montenapoleone , The part of his life , The Roman cannon and Sapore di te.

life and career

Carlo Vanzina, born in Rome in 1951, was the son of the film director and screenwriter Stefano Vanzina , called Steno (1915–1988). Carlo Vanzina began his film career as an assistant director in 1970 on Mario Monicelli's adventure comedy Brancaleone on Crusade to the Holy Land with Vittorio Gassman and Adolfo Celi in the leading roles.

In 1976 he directed his first feature film with Luna di miele in tre based on his own script . From then on, Vanzina has supervised around 70 cinema and television productions as a director. He wrote most of the scripts for his films himself. He co-produced some of his colleagues' films. Vanzina felt at home in all film genres. The number of crime films, dramas and comedies are roughly in balance in his filmography.

In 1988 he cast in the literary film The Part of his Life alongside Matthew Modine three strong female characters with Faye Dunaway , Jennifer Beals and Corinne Cléry .

For his 1994 comedy The Roman Cannon , he engaged not only Italian actors but also the popular American actor Leslie Nielsen , known from the internationally successful trilogy The Naked Cannon .
