Carlos Alexandre Fortes Alhinho (born January 10, 1949 in São Vicente , † May 31, 2008 in Benguela ) was a Cape Verdean Portuguese football player and coach.

career

Carlos Alhinho was born in Cape Verde . He has played football in Portugal since 1968. During his playing days, he was one of the few players who were under contract with all three of Portugal's major clubs, Sporting Lisbon , FC Porto and Benfica Lisbon . He won the championship title with Sporting in 1974 and with Benfica in 1977 and 1981. 1973 and 1974 won the Cup with Sporting, 1980 and 1981 and the Supercup 1980 with Benfica. A trip to Betis Sevilla was unsuccessful in the 1975/76 season, Alhinho did not play a game for the club.

Alhinho was nominated 15 times in Portugal's selection. He made his first game on March 28, 1973 in a 1-1 draw against Northern Ireland during qualification for the 1974 World Cup in the Federal Republic of Germany . The last game he played in the 1: 3 defeat against Brazil on May 5, 1982. He scored a goal during the time as little as he could participate in a World or European Championship.

After his active career, Alhinho became a coach and looked after the national teams of Cape Verde and Angola . He had a fatal accident at a hotel in Benguela, Angolan, when he fell into an empty elevator shaft. At the time he was in negotiations for an engagement as a coach of the Angolan top club Primeiro de Maio .
