Carlos Manuel Gonçalves Alonso (born October 11, 1978 in Luanda , Angola ), known as Kali , is a former Angolan football player .

Career

Kali's career began in 1998 with FC Barreirense in the Portuguese third division . In 2001 he was given the opportunity to switch to CD Santa Clara , which had just been promoted to the Primeira Liga . Here he quickly became an integral part of the team. At the end of the 2002/03 season, he had to relegate his team. He remained loyal to the club in the Segunda Liga , but played there again to stay in class. In the summer of 2005 he returned to Barreirense, which had just been promoted to the Segunda Liga. At the end of the 2005/06 season he was relegated with his team.

In summer 2006, Kali moved to FC Sion , who was playing in the Swiss Super League at the time . There he won the Swiss Cup in 2009 , but was not in the squad in the final. In the summer of 2009, Kali joined the French second division club AC Arles . In October 2009 he terminated his contract. He was then without a club for a few months before he joined CD Primeiro de Agosto in his home country in early 2010 . He stayed there until he retired at the end of 2014.

With the Angolan national team , he was able to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany for the first time . This meant the greatest success in the football history of the African country. He was used in a total of 65 international matches between 2001 and 2011.

In 2004 he won the South African Championship with Angola . Kali also took part in the African Championships several times and was also in the squad in 2008 and 2010, when the Angolan team reached the quarter-finals and thus their best placement in this competition to date.
