Carlos Schmitt

Carlos Schmitt OFM (born January 27, 1919 in Gaspar , † January 16, 2006 in Dourados ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Dourados .

Life

Carlos Schmitt joined the Congregation of the Franciscan at and received on 28 November 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope John XXIII appointed him Bishop of Dourados on August 29, 1960 . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on October 28 of the same year. Co- consecrators were Curia Archbishop Diego Venini and the Bishop of Imola , Benigno Carrara .

Schmitt participated in the first, second and fourth session of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On February 14, 1970 Pope Paul VI. his resignation from the diocese of Dourados and appointed him titular bishop of Sufar . Due to the changed allocation guidelines, he renounced his titular seat on March 16, 1971. In the same year he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Lages . The Pope released him from this office on February 20, 1973.
