Carlyle Blackwell (born January 20, 1884 in Syracuse , New York or Troy , New York or Troy , Pennsylvania , USA ; † June 17, 1955 in Miami , Florida , USA) was an American silent film actor , director and producer .

Life

Blackwell made his film debut in 1910 in the film Uncle Tom's Cabin , directed by J. Stuart Blackton . Between 1910 and 1930 he played in over 180 films. Known it made in particular the role of Sherlock Holmes in in Germany Richard Oswald's German film adaptation of the popular detective substance The Hound of the Baskervilles from 1929. Immediately before, he had the male lead in already Géza von Bolvárys German-British co-production The Strangler played , a crime story based on a model by Edgar Wallace .
