from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carmelita Görg (born August 15, 1950 in Göttingen ; † February 19, 2016 ) was a German computer scientist , electrical engineer and university lecturer . In 1997 she was the first woman to do her habilitation in the electrical engineering department of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen . She did research on traffic theory , stochastic simulation and telecommunication services .

life and work

Görg studied computer science from 1972 to 1976 with a degree in computer science at the University of Karlsruhe, now the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology , where she worked as a scientist until 1979. She then carried out research at Professor Friedrich Schreiber's chair for remote data processing at RWTH Aachen University, where she received her doctorate with distinction in 1984 on the queue handling strategy SRPT (Shortest Remaining Processing Time First). From 1985 to 1989 she worked in the field of communications networks in her own company and in 1989 returned to the chair at RWTH Aachen University that Bernhard Walke had taken over as chief engineer . She did research on traffic theory, stochastic simulation and telecommunications services and was particularly active in EU projects. In 1997 she completed her habilitation in the electrical engineering department of RWTH Aachen University on "Traffic theoretical models and stochastic simulation for the performance analysis of communication networks" and did research at RWTH Aachen University until 1999. She then became a professor for the Communication Network of the Faculty of Physics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Bremen , where she worked until 2015. She developed and coordinated the international master’s program “Communication and Information Technology”. She was a member of the Academy of Sciences in Hamburg , the Association for Computing Machinery , the Society for Computer Science, the VDE / ITG.
