Carmen Tartarotti

Carmen Tartarotti (born October 5, 1950 in Latsch ) is a German filmmaker .

Life

Carmen Tartarotti was born on October 5th, 1950 in Latsch and spent her youth in the Vinschgau in South Tyrol (Italy). From 1963 to 1971 she attended the women's high school in Merano . After graduating from high school, she studied German and politics from 1972 to 1973 in Marburg and then in Frankfurt am Main . During her studies she worked on various projects with Italian guest workers and political emigrants. After completing her master's degree in 1978, she did an internship at the Hessischer Rundfunk and worked as a freelancer in the television culture department. With a grant from the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), she made her first experimental short film in 1980, "Kribus-Krabus-Domine". The film marked the beginning of her independent activity as a filmmaker. In 2019 it was presented as part of the retrospective “Self-determined. Perspectives from women filmmakers ”will be shown at the Berlinale. Carmen Tartarotti works as a freelance writer, director and producer in Frankfurt, Meran and Berlin.
