Heimatfilmfestival
The Festival Der neue Heimatfilm ( Heimatfilmfestival ) is an international five-day film festival that takes place every year at the end of August in Freistadt , Upper Austria . The festival's branches are located in Katsdorf , Grein , Bad Leonfelden , Haslach , Kaplice and Gallneukirchen , among others . In 2011, a selection of films from the festival in Vienna was presented for the first time as part of a film series in the Admiral Kino. In 2013 the festival “The New Homeland Film” was hosted in the Kotva cinema in České Budějovice .
history
The Heimatfilmfestival was held for the first time in 1988. Every year around 60 international feature film , documentary film and short film programs are shown that can be assigned to the genre of the “new home film ”. It is therefore one of the smaller festivals in Austria. The theme of identity, which is closely related to the concept of home and which is often illuminated in the form of films about migration, has emerged as a focus of content in recent years. Films about life in the provinces and structural change in rural areas are also well represented. The festival director and founder is Wolfgang Steininger, operator of the Freistadt cinema and the Moviemento and City-Kino arthouse cinemas in Linz, who also founded the Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz in 2004 . In addition to the Freistadt cinema with 3 halls, the Freistadt event center in Salzhof and the open air cinema in Salzgasse Freistadt are also used by the festival, so that a total of 5 halls are available in Freistadt.
Since 1998, the city has been awarding the city of Freistadt's film prize , which is endowed with 2,500 euros. In addition to the film prize, the documentary film prize of the city of Freistadt , endowed with 1,500 euros , has been awarded since 2007 . The city also awards the Freistadt City Prize for special services .
Concerts and exhibitions are also part of the festival program. In 2017, 80 feature-length and short films from 27 production countries were shown in 98 screenings. 3,500 visitors were reached.
The festival "Der neue Heimatfilm" took place in 2019 from August 21st to 25th.
