Caroline Davis

Caroline Davis (* 1981 in Singapore ) is a jazz saxophone player living in the USA .

life and work

Davis, who has a British father and a Swedish mother, has been playing the saxophone since she was twelve. In 1999 she began studying psychology at the University of Texas , from which she graduated with a bachelor's degree. She later moved to Northwestern University , where she studied psychology as well as music and received her doctorate in 2010 on the semantic knowledge of important jazz musicians . In 2006 she received an award as an outstanding soloist on the Down Beat . In 2011 she performed in the Kennedy Center's Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program .

In 2012 Davis released her first album "Live Work & Play" with Mike Allemana ( guitar ), Matt Ferguson ( bass ) and Jeremy Cunningham ( drums ). In the field of jazz she was involved in three recording sessions between 2007 and 2012, including a. with the Stone / Bratt Big Band around Doug Stone and Doug Bratt.

Davis also played with Maitri, Fatbook, Deep Fayed, Zing !, Pedway, Tomorrow Music Orchestra, James Davis Quintet, and Ted Sirota 's Rebel Souls . In 2018 she released the album Heart Tonic ( Sunnyside Records , with Marquis Hill , Julian Shore , Tamir Shmerling and Jay Sawyer ), followed by Alula (2019), with Matt Mitchell and Gregory Saunier . Currently (2019) Davis leads a quintet that includes Marquis Hill, Julian Shore, Chris Tordini and Allan Mednard .
