Tamir Shmerling

Tamir Shmerling (Hebrew תמיר שמרלינג, * around 1985 ) is an Israeli modern jazz musician ( double bass ) living in the United States .

Live and act

Shmerling, who comes from Ashkelon , played as a bassist in an Israeli military orchestra during his military service from 2005 to 2008. After his discharge from the army, he worked in big bands in Tel Aviv and Cholon ; he also studied at the Rimon Music School. In 2008 Shmerling received a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music . There he received lessons from Hal Crook , Ralph Peterson , Terri Lyne Carrington , Greg Osby , Jamey Haddad , Alain Mallet , John Lockwood and Ed Tomassi . During his training he worked with musicians such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Kevin Eubanks , Jerry Bergonzi , Alain Mallet, Carmen Lundy , Lizz Wright , Ingrid Jensen , Adam Rogers , Chad Lefkowitz-Brown , Gretchen Parlato , Helen Sung , Ofer Ganor , Avishai Cohen , Ignacio Berroa , Jason Palmer and Jerome Sabbagh . The first recordings were made in the USA in 2015 with Miles Donahue ( The Bug ), then with Addison Frei , Caroline Davis , Dan Pugach Nonet and Eli Degibri ( Soul Station: A Tribute to Hank Mobley ). Shmerling is currently (2019) a member of the Eli Degibri Quartet.
