Karoline Franziska Dorothea von Parkstein
Karoline Franziska Dorothea von Parkstein (* 1762 ; † September 7, 1816 in Bad Windsheim , district Ickelheim , Ickelheim Castle ) was a Countess of Parkstein and by marriage Princess of Isenburg and Büdingen and the last mistress of Reipoltskirchen .
Life
Karoline Franziska was an illegitimate daughter of Elector Karl Theodor of Palatinate-Bavaria (1724-1799) from his relationship with Françoise Després-Verneuil († 1765), who in 1762 had been raised to "Freiin von Parkstein". Karoline Franziska, who was hard of hearing and could hardly speak, was legitimized in 1762. Minister Freiherr Peter Emanuel von Zedtwitz was appointed her guardian .
The first candidate to marry was captain of the guard and general manager of Portia. However, Karoline Franziska refused to marry him; von Portia fell out of favor and was removed from the court. In 1776, Major General Prince Friedrich Wilhelm zu Isenburg and Büdingen (1730–1804), 32 years his senior, appeared as an applicant for the hand of Karoline Franziska. In order to achieve equality, her father tried to raise his daughter to the rank of Countess von Parkstein by the emperor. Since the Parkstein rule was an imperial fiefdom in Bohemia, the emperor raised her to Countess von Bergstein , which did not prevent Karoline Franziska from calling herself Countess von Parkstein.
At the age of 14, Karoline Franziska married the 46-year-old Prince Friedrich Wilhelm zu Isenburg on October 25, 1776 at the Hermitage Palace in Waghäusel . Karl Theodor had acquired the Löwenhaupt's share of the Reipoltskirchen rule for his daughter from the Palatinate, which she spent on her husband. The rule was lost in 1795 through the First Coalition War ; the couple received financial compensation in 1803. A year later, Karoline Franziska became a widow at the age of 41. Only two of her children survived their mother.
Karoline Franziska von Parkstein or Isenburg lived as a widow in the former Deutschordensschloss in Ickelheim (today Bad Windsheim), where she also died. She was buried at the Catholic Church in Sondernohe , where the classical tombstone has been preserved.
