action

Léo, a former professional boxer who is addicted to alcohol and leads an unsteady existence, finds a job as a caretaker for the paraplegic and beautiful Muriel. The previous nurses did not feel up to the task. After initial difficulties, Léo shows himself to be caring and enables her to go on excursions into the surrounding area. The literature enthusiast Muriel can persuade her companion, who obviously has an aversion to reading, to read to her. Despite their dissimilar nature, they get closer.

In his free time, Léo, who was a former European champion, is drawn to a boxing gym in the Colombian city of Cartagena . He takes over the training of the petty criminal and prostituting Lina in order to prepare her for a competition. On this fight and the victory of Lina, he makes a bet with the manager of the boxing hall, who is supposed to train the opponent. Half of the profit is supposed to free Léo from his debts, the other half he promises Lina. Léo gets into a fight provoked by Lina and because of his injuries does not show up for work for a few days. Muriel is enraged by his repeated unreliability and dismisses him. Tired of life, she asks her friend Lucia to help her with drug suicide. She refuses because she loves Muriel. Léo realizes that Muriel means a lot to him. One night he sneaks into her house and lies down on the bed with her. Muriel hires him again. After Lina has won her fight, Léo borrows a convertible from the owner of the boxing hall to take Muriel to the sea because she told him that she loved being in the sea. The film ends when Léo carried Muriel into the sea in his arms.

Reviews

"A tragic comedy that only marginally addresses the pitfalls of history and primarily offers non-binding entertainment in an exotic, seductive setting."

“Despite the length, very close to life and life-affirming. Conclusion: played atmospheric and moving. "

"As an ex-boxer battered by fate, even Lambert, who has long disappeared into oblivion, is in top form, Marceau shines with a game that is entirely geared towards her facial expressions."
