Casas Adobes is a census-designated place in Pima County in the state of Arizona in the United States .
geography
Casas Adobes is 17 km north of Tucson between the cities of Oro Valley in the north and Marana in the west, to the east is the census-designated place Catalina Foothills . Casas Adobes is therefore largely in the area south of Cañada del Oro , north of Rillito River and west of Pima Wash , which drains the western edge of the Pusch Ridge Wilderness from the Pima Canyon . Arizona State Route 77 runs through Casas Adobes in the east from north to south . The Interstate 10 leads west to Casas Adobes along.
history
Casas Adobes is in unincorporated territory , but it is older than Oro Valley and Marana. Before its development, the area was mainly used by ranchers . As one of the first suburbs of Tucson, the area was opened in the 1940s. Casas Adobes got its name from a building area that was created in the 1950s and which goes back to the building contractor Silvio Nanini and which consisted largely of large ranch-style houses built with adobe bricks . The area is almost completely built up, today almost 60,000 people live in the almost 60 square kilometer area. The attempt made between 1997 and 2001 to incorporate the area into a town failed in 2001 after a referendum. It can be assumed that the surrounding cities of Oro Valley, Marana and Tucson will incorporate parts of the area.
On January 8, 2011, the Tucson assassination attempt , in which Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was seriously injured, was carried out in Casas Adobes .

At the time of the 2010 census ( US Census 2010 ) Casa Adobes had 66,795 inhabitants on a land area of approx. 68.7 km². The median age was 41.6 years (US national average: 37.2 years). The per capita income (Engl. The per capita income ) amounted to 29,578 dollars (the national average for the USA: 27,334 US dollars). 9.0% of the population had their income below the poverty line (national average in the USA: 13.8%).
