In the Austrian documentary Cash and Marry , director Atanas Georgiev and his friend Marko try to find a bride who they will marry for a fee . This would give them access to a visa and allow them to continue living in Austria.

Synopsis

Marko and Atanas are two friends whose lives could be so good - if it weren't for a little problem with their papers. They want an EU passport and for that they are willing to do almost anything, even buy a bride. With nothing but a bit of optimism and 7,000 euros in their pockets, they set out to find the woman of their dreams. One who is willing to stand before the altar for money and stay with them until the possible divorce . A real green card story and a funny odyssey through the underworld of the Viennese migrant milieu . Cash & Marry shows what it takes to jump over the barricades of European borders .

With student visas young come Macedonians from the Balkans to Austria to get married Austrian women. They pay up to € 14,000 to their “wives” and hope to receive Austrian citizenship after the wedding . In Cash & Marry , the motivations of young men who leave their homeland to come to Austria and the motivation of young Austrian women to get involved in a marriage arrangement are examined.

The story of these young people is told in a humorous way and attention is drawn to the absurdity of the inhuman Austrian immigration law . The film documents, with the director Atanas Georgiev as protagonist , how the life of these men is. He is following in their footsteps.
