Casma is the capital of the Casma Province in the Ancash region of central western Peru . The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The 2017 census counted 24,760 inhabitants.
Geographical location
The city of Casma is located about 320 km north-northwest of the state capital Lima . It is located at the confluence of the Río Sechín in the Río Casma . The city is located at an altitude of 39 m in the desert coastal region of Peru. The Pacific coast is less than 6 miles away. The barren foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise further to the east . Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the rivers.
Attractions
There are several archaeological sites of the Sechín culture in the vicinity . The finds are exhibited in the Museo Regional de Casma Max Uhle, which was opened in 1984 and named after Max Uhle , not far from the Cerro Sechín excavation site .
