Caspar August Neuhaus

Caspar August Neuhaus (born October 23, 1860 in Welschen Ennest ; † May 12, 1926 in Karlsbad ) was a cigar manufacturer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Neuhaus attended elementary school in Welschen Ennest, the rectorate school in Olpe and the secondary school in Münster . He completed commercial and technical training for eight years at home and abroad. Later he ran a cigar factory (August Neuhaus & Cie.) In Schwetzingen and several country towns and a cigarette factory in Dresden . From 1898 he was a local councilor, from 1895 a member of the Mannheim Chamber of Commerce , from 1901 a member of the Second Baden Chamber and from 1903 a member of the Baden Railway Council. In 1894 he had the Villa Neuhaus built in Schwetzingen.

From 1913 to 1918 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Baden 8 ( Rastatt , Bühl , Baden-Baden ) and the German Center Party . On June 4, 1919 August-Neuhaus-Strasse in Schwetzingen was named after him.

His grandson was Alfred Hubertus Neuhaus , who was in charge of August Neuhaus & Cie. From 1961 . Cigar factories and was a member of the German Bundestag from 1976 to 1983 .
