Caspar Frantz

Caspar Frantz (* 1980 in Kiel ) is a German pianist and university professor.

Vita

Caspar Frantz began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. He completed his studies in Matthias Kirschnereit's classes at the Rostock University of Music and Theater and in chamber music with Eberhard Feltz at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin . He received further important artistic impulses from Renate Kretschmar-Fischer and Elisabeth Leonskaja and completed master classes with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling , Maria João Pires and György Kurtág .

He played with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Kiel , the New Westphalia Philharmonic, the Moldova Iaşi State Philharmonic, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic and the North German Philharmonic Rostock. He is often a guest at renowned music festivals, such as B. the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival and the Beethoven Festival Bonn. His chamber music partners include a. Chloë Hanslip , Antje Weithaas , Sabine Meyer , Bryn Terfel and the Vogler Quartet. From 2005 to 2010 Caspar Frantz devoted himself to the cyclical performance of all of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano sonatas at Melschede Castle (Sundern).

In 2004 Caspar Frantz received the Carl Heinz Illies grant from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben . In a duo with cellist Julian Arp, he is the winner of the German Music Competition, the Mendelssohn Competition and the Premio Vittorio Gui, Florence. The Duo Arp-Frantz has recorded three CDs for the Genuin label , including the complete works for violoncello and piano by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy . Caspar Frantz's latest solo recording with works by Robert Schumann was released on the Ars Produktion label . Caspar Frantz received a scholarship from Villa Musica and the Rostock Horst Rahe Foundation .

He was also the curator of the Berlin literary magazine Belletristik . Since March 2015 Caspar Frantz has been Professor of Chamber Music at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig .

Caspar Frantz is the nephew of the pianist and conductor Justus Frantz .
