Castellanus (cas) ( Latin for "concerning the castle") are clouds that have at least some swellings in the upper section in the form of turrets, which generally give the cloud a crenellated appearance. This species is applicable to the genera Cirrus , Cirrocumulus , Altocumulus and Stratocumulus . The turrets, some of which develop more upwards than in width, are connected to one another by a common base and often grow side by side out of the same cloud. The Castellanus character is particularly evident when the cloud is viewed from the side.
