Cumulonimbus Capillatus incus ( anvil )

Capillatus (cap) ( Latin "hairy, hairy") is a cumulonimbus , in which - mostly in the upper section - pronounced cirrus- like structures with a clearly fibrous or streaky structure are present, often in the shape of an anvil , a tuft of feathers or a have large, more or less tangled amounts of hair.

Since the upper part usually touches the tropopause and is therefore at the level of the cirrus clouds, it also clearly shows their structure, and when the cumulonimbus dissolves, a residual cirrus cloud often remains (which, however, usually dissolves again quickly).

Cumulonimbus capillatus usually has showers or thunderstorms , often with gusts and sometimes with hail ; often it comes to very well pronounced Virga formation.
