Castello is a fraction of the Italian municipality of Valsolda in the Lombardy province of Como .

history

During the Spanish rule in the 16th and 17th centuries, Castello had limited opportunities for local self-government. Most of the public tasks were taken over by the Consiglio generale of Valsolda .

During the Napoleonic era , Castello with its 144 inhabitants was combined with the municipality of Albogasio by decree of June 8, 1805 . In 1816, after the establishment of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto , Valsolda regained its independence. In 1853 the village had 213 inhabitants, in 1861 204.

In 1862 the village took the name Castello Valsolda . In 1927 Castello was merged with the municipalities of Albogasio, Cressogno , Dasio, Drano and Puria to form the new municipality of Valsolda .

Attractions

  • The parish church of San Martino, whose origins date back to the 9th century, was completely rebuilt between 1578 and 1602 in the Baroque style. The simple single-nave hall church with a campanile has six side chapels and a barrel vault. Inside the church is fully decorated with wall paintings. The vault is painted with frescoes by Paolo Pagani . In the apse four events from the life of St. Martin , Patron of the Church, are depicted.
  • The "Museo Casa Pagani" is located in a baroque former city palace of the Pagani family. Works by artists from the Valsolda from the 14th to the 19th century are shown.
