Attractions
- The parish church of Santa María is a late Romanesque building from the early 13th century (consecrated in 1216) with a bell gable from the Renaissance period . The semicircular apse has two richly decorated and almost identical quatrefoil windows , which are arranged in a cross shape. The Gothic west portal, which is barely noticeably sharpened in the apex of the arch, has six set columns with Gothic-looking chalice capitals. The archivolts arches are only slightly profiled ; however, their end faces present ornate star bars and a block frieze as the outer frame. The tympanum shows a cross, which is surrounded by a total of six plant or leaf motifs. The south portal is a little smaller, but almost identical overall; On the side above there are two slim windows framed by small columns. The central cross motif in the tympanum of the north portal is slightly modified; the archivolts are comparable to those of the other two portals. The nave is about 20 meters long and 7 meters wide and is spanned by an open roof truss; the apse is drawn inwards and shows the usual dome vault .
- In front of the church is a baroque cross from the 17th century.
- A single arched medieval stone bridge without side parapet walls crosses the Río Lagares at the northern end of the Parque Público de Castrelos .
- On the eastern edge of the park is the city museum ( Museo Quiñones de León ), inaugurated in 1937 , which presents archaeological finds as well as paintings and handicraft objects (furniture, ceramics, etc.) from the Baroque period to the recent past.
