action
During a business trip, the American advertising specialist Rob Norris ( Rob Delaney ) meets the teacher Sharon Morris ( Sharon Horgan ) in a London bar. The single Rob, who has left his alcohol addiction behind, throws himself into an affair lasting several days with the easy-going, equally unattached Sharon. It wasn't until a month later in his home town of Boston that Rob found out that Sharon was pregnant. Back in England, Rob decides to move in with Sharon and help her with her pregnancy. Unfortunately, getting to know each other again is more difficult than expected and seems to end in a catastrophe.
production
After the script was rejected by the BBC , Catastrophe found a home in May 2014 on the British private broadcaster Channel 4 , which commissioned the six-part first season. The theme music comes from the English film composer Oli Julian .
A second season of Channel 4 went into production in January 2015, which aired in October 2015. The third season was released in February 2017, the fourth and final season in January 2019.
Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan aren't just the main characters in the series. They came up with the series, wrote the scripts and also served as producers. American actress Carrie Fisher , who played Rob's heated mother Mia Norris, had her last series role in Catastrophe . She died of a heart attack in December 2016 shortly after filming the third season. In the season finale, she was recognized with a photo in the credits.

reception
Reviews
“One has seldom seen a more unromantic romance. Not even a comedy whose dialogues are bursting with cynicism, but not degenerating into a mere punch line. And also not a drama that goes to the heart, because it is not kitschy, the disasters to be dealt with are realistic and the characters are relieved of conflict management in every turn. This is adult television that does not claim to be a generational picture, but simply tells the story of how two people find each other - or not. "
