Catherine is a civil parish in Wilcox County in the state of Alabama in the United States .

geography

Catherine is located in central Alabama in the southern United States. It is located about 8 kilometers northwest of the Alabama River , which merges into the Mobile River in the south and finally flows into the Mobile Bay and Gulf of Mexico .

Nearby places include Gastonburg (3 km northeast), Prairie (4 km southeast), Alberta (7 km northeast), Consul (11 km northwest) and Thomaston (15 km northwest). The next larger city with 205,000 inhabitants is the capital of Alabama, Montgomery, about 100 kilometers to the east .

history

The place was named after the wife of a senior railway employee. A post office was opened in 1888.

Demographics

The 2010 census showed a population of 22, divided between 10 households and 7 families. 73% of the population were white and 27% black. For every 12 women there were 10 men. The average age was 57 years, only two people were under 25 years old.
