Cefalonium is an antibiotic that is used in veterinary medicine . It is produced semisynthetically and belongs to the class of cephalosporins of the 1st generation.

indication

Cefalonium is mostly used in veterinary medicine. It has activity against aerobic Gram-positive and some community-acquired Gram-negative bacteria.

Cefalonium is used quarterly to treat subclinical infections and to prevent new infections intramammary during the dry season in cattle.

Cefalonium can also be used as an eye ointment for susceptible bacterial eye infections in cattle, including keratoconjunctivitis .

Working principle

The cefadroxil molecules bind to specific penicillin- binding proteins , which are located in the bacterial cell wall. This prevents further synthesis of the bacterial cell wall.
