Lake Cei , in Italian Lago di Cei , is a mountain lake near Castellano in the area of the municipality of Villa Lagarina near Rovereto in Trentino .
It is located at the foot of Monte Stivo in a closed basin north of Lake Garda at an altitude of 918 m slm
The lake has an area of about 4.5 hectares, the maximum depth is 13.5 meters. The lake is fed by a small spring at the bottom of the lake. The small drain on the east side flows into another smaller lake after only about 60 meters, the Lago di Lagabis, whose drain, the Rio Airone, flows in a north-northeast direction into the Rio Cimone near Aldeno . The depth of view determined with the Secchi pane is 4 meters.
It is also used as a swimming lake. Since 1997 the lake has been part of the Prà dell'Albi-Cei biotope .
Emergence
Lake Cei was created by a landslide , even if the basin in which it is located was carved out by a glacier. On the basis of upright tree trunks discovered on the bottom of the lake, it was possible to determine using the radiocarbon method that the trees died in the middle of the 13th century after the water was dammed. At that time the lake must have had a greater extent, as evidenced by peat deposits and the neighboring Lago di Lagabis, which is only about 60 meters smaller.
flora
The flora at Lake Cei is very species-rich. They are native to: white water lilies , yellow pond roses , common beach ledges , sedges , stilt reeds and the Siberian iris . In the nearby Torfbereichen can be found: the narrow-cotton grass , the common butterwort , the creep-grazing and the lesser bladderwort .
Fish fauna
Carp , tench , pike and perch live in the lake . In the biotope with its wetlands you can also find the jackdaw crab and the Italian tree frog .
