description

Appearance and leaf

Ceropegia attenuata is a perennial , herbaceous plant . It forms root tubers as permanent organs. The upright, twisting shoot axes are delicate, slender and hairy. The leaves are sessile. The leaf blades are linear and 5 to 8 cm long.

Inflorescence and flower

blossom

A single-flowered inflorescence stands on a relatively short inflorescence stem with a length of about 5 mm . The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are subpulate and 2 to 4 mm long. The comparatively large corolla (Corolla) has a total length of 5 cm to 7.5. In the lower part, the five petals have grown together to form a bare corolla tube ( sympetalie ). In the lower part, the corolla tube is swollen and ovoid ("crown bowl") and has a diameter of 4 mm. The crown cup is bare inside. It gradually merges into the actual corolla tube, which at its thinnest point has a diameter of 3 mm. It widens in the shape of a funnel towards the mouth and has a diameter of about 6 mm there. The linear petals are up to 37 mm long and fused together at the ends. The hairy lamina of the corolla lobes are bent outwards along the longitudinal axis. The sessile secondary crown (corona) is fused shell-shaped at the base. The tips of the interstaminal outer corolla are ciliate, erect, broadly triangular and almost completely fused. Their upper edge is notched or cut in the middle and forms two triangular extensions. The tips of the staminal (or inner) secondary crown are 2 to 3 mm long and linear-sub-shaped; they stand upright, incline over the stylus head and the tips are slightly curved outwards.

Fruit and seeds

The paired follicles stand upright, diverge and develop at the same time. A tricarpy also occurs very rarely; This means that three follicles are formed, or only one follicle develops. The single follicle fruit is 5 to 5.5 cm long and straight.

Similar species

Ceropegia attenuata is closely related to Ceropegia jainii and Ceropegia pusilla because of their similar flower crowns .

Occurrence

Ceropegia attenuata occurs in the Indian states of Rajasthan , Goa , Maharashtra and Karnataka . The occurrence in Myanmar , however, has not been confirmed with certainty.

The variety Ceropegia attenuata var. Mookambikae grows in the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary on the Manmanhara Plateau (Karnataka) at altitudes of about 900 meters.

Systematics, taxonomy and phylogeny

The first description of Ceropegia attenuata was in 1851 by William Jackson Hooker in the 9th volume of the Icones Plantarum on plate 867. The publication date is given in many papers as 1852. According to the International Plant Names Index , however, this part was published between April and December 1851.

There are currently two varieties:

  • Ceropegia attenuata Hook. var. attenuata
  • Ceropegia attenuata Hook. var. mookambikae Diwakar & R.Kr.Singh

In the phylogeny of the genus Ceropegia based on molecular genetic data , Ceropegia attenuata is the sister species of Ceropegia anantii , and is closely related to Ceropegia mahabalei and Ceropegia anjanerica .
