The Cerro Kishtwar is a mountain in the Kishtwar Himalaya , a mountain region in the western Himalayas in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .

The 6155  m high glaciated mountain is located in the far east of the Kishtwar district . The Cerro Kishtwar is located north of the Dharlang river valley , a right tributary of the Chanab .

South of Cerro Kishtwar rises the 6040  m high White Saphire , another climbing peak with an 850 m high wall.

Ascent history

The Cerro Kishtwar was first climbed on September 20, 1993 by the two British Mick Fowler and Steve Sustad . The ascent route (ED +; Sco VI, A3; 1300 m) led over the north-west face and north-east face

Subsequently, the mountains in Kashmir were closed to foreign mountaineers until around 2010 for military and political reasons.

In 2011 Stephan Siegrist , David Lama , Denis Burdet and Rob Frost climbed Cerro Kishtwar as the second team via the Route Yoniverse (WI5, 6a, 1200 m), an ascent over the north-west face .

In 2015, Hayden Kennedy , Marco Prezelj , Manu Pellisier and Urban Novak climbed in alpine style over the route Light Before Wisdom (ED +, 5.11, WI6, M6, A2, 1200 m) through the east face as the third team to the summit and received one for it Piolet d'Or .

In 2017 Stephan Siegrist , Thomas Huber and Julian Zanker climbed through the central northwest face via the Har Har Mahadev route (VII, A3 +, 6b, M6, 1000 m).

In 2018 the Japanese Genki Narumi, Yusuke Sato and Hiroki Yamamoto climbed through the northwest face via their route All Izz Well (VI, WI5, M6, 1500m).
