action

On a very rainy night, the frustrated widower and unsuccessful businessman Aman Kapoor drives through the metropolis of Bombay . His car stops because of the flooded streets. There is also no one around to ask for help. That's why he looks for shelter under one roof, where the prostitute Chameli waits for clients. However, since there is no customer in sight, she starts a conversation. At first Aman rejects her, but when she talks about her life, he shows interest.

Chameli's pimp Usman went after her that night as she still owed him 25,000 rupees. Amar has pity and wants to help Chameli. She meets Usman in a bar. When Usman gets violent against her, Aman intervenes to settle Chameli's debts. You go to the bank where Aman withdraws the money. But Usman wants more money and pulls out the knife. Usman is unintentionally injured in this argument. Chameli and Aman are arrested. After a short back and forth, however, they are released and Chameli is free of debt.

After this exciting night, Aman finally returns home and, thanks to Chameli, is a different man. He had led a depressed life after the death of his wife. He jumps over his shadow and makes contact with his father-in-law again.

Finally he meets Chameli again at her place of work and their reunion reminds of their first encounter.

criticism

“The plot stays pretty thin, but includes strong dialogue and flashbacks into the characters' lives. A lot happens in just one night, but the logic is not overstretched. And at the end there is, by no means customary in Bollywood * drum roll *, an open ending! Unusual indeed. And personable. That goes for the whole strip. Despite the tough subject and raw characters, the work is ultimately very human. Certainly not the film of the year and none that is making big money in India. But afterwards you see Kareena with different eyes. Brave, girl, brave. "(From molodezhnaja.ch)
