The Chameliya Khola (also Chamaliya ) is a left tributary of the Mahakali in the Mahakali administrative zone in the far west of Nepal .
The Chameliya Khola arises on the southern flank of the Api , the highest mountain in the Guran Himal . The river is fed by several glaciers . It flows in a predominantly southwestern direction through the Front Himalayas within the Darchula district . In the lower reaches it forms the border to the southern Baitadi district . The Chameliya Khola finally flows into the Mahakali, which flows south at the Indian border. The length of the river is around 90 km. The catchment area covers approximately 1600 km².
Use of hydropower
A 30 MW run-of-river power plant on the middle reaches has been under construction for several years. The hydropower project includes a dam ( ⊙ ) at which the river water is conducted over a distance of around 5 km via a tunnel and a pressure line to the downstream power station ( ⊙ ). Due to various problems, including geological and financial, the completion date has been postponed several times.
