Charles-Jules Matthey

Charles-Jules Matthey (born December 7, 1814 in Savagnier , † July 28, 1863 in Neuchâtel ) was a Swiss politician . From 1854 to 1857 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of a farmer worked as a teacher. He taught in Savagnier, Fontaines , Cernier and Saint-Imier . Matthey represented radical liberal views and was actively involved in the successful revolution against Prussian rule in the canton of Neuchâtel in 1848 . In 1848 he served as the provisional police commissioner for the city of Neuchâtel, and from 1850 to 1853 as a bailiff at the Peace Court. In 1852 he was prefect in the Val-de-Ruz district , and from 1854 to 1858 also in the Neuchâtel district .

Matthey was elected to the Neuchâtel Grand Council in 1853 , to which he belonged until 1858. He ran in the National Council elections in 1854 and waived re-election three years later. As prefect of Neuchâtel, he was involved in the suppression of the royalist uprising in 1856 . The Grand Council elected him to the State Council in 1859 , from which he resigned three years later.
