Charles-Omer Valois
Charles-Omer Valois (born April 24, 1924 in Montréal , † August 4, 2013 in Saint-Jérôme ) was Bishop of Saint-Jérôme .
Life
Charles Valois studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminaries of Sainte-Thérèse and Montréal. He was ordained a priest on June 3, 1950 by Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger , Archbishop of Montréal . He was professor at the seminary of Sainte-Thérèse in Sainte-Thérèse from 1950 to 1962 , interrupted by a history study from 1955 to 1957 at the University of Montreal . In 1963 he also finished studying French literature there. He was also chaplain of Jeunesse étudiante chrétienne until 1964 . In 1968 he became Vice Regens and later Regens of the seminary. He was involved in the educational reforms in Quebec, especially from 1968 to 1973 as the founding rector of the Collège Lionel-Groulx . In 1973 he took over the parish of Sainte-Adèle in Saint-Jérôme; two years later he became vicar general of the diocese of Saint-Jérôme and was responsible for pastoral care. In 1977 he became diocesan administrator after the transfer of Bishop Bernard Hubert.
Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 10, 1977 Bishop of Saint-Jérôme . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Canada , Angelo Palmas , ordained him bishop on June 29 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Bernard Hubert , Bishop of Saint-Jean-de-Québec and Robert Lebel , Bishop of Valleyfield .
He was a member of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) , where he was a member of the Standing Committee and the Commissions for the Clergy, Justice and Peace and Social Communication in the French-speaking Diocesan Areas. He was a member of the Commission de la vidéo religieuse .
On January 22, 1997, Pope John Paul II granted his retirement request for health reasons .
Charles Valois was Grand Prior of the Canada-Montréal Lieutenancy of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
