Charles Degeorge
Charles Jean Marie Degeorge (born March 31, 1837 in Lyon , † November 2, 1888 in Paris ) was a French sculptor and medalist .
life and work
He studied from 1850 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and from 1853 to 1855 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon,
His most famous work is The Youth of Aristotle (1875), which shows the thinker as a half-naked boy sitting on a large chair and reading a scroll lying on his knees with his head propped up. The work is in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Also known is the bust of the painter Henri Regnault created by Degeorge for the Regnault monument in front of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, which honors the painter who died in the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 .
In 1880 he became a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
