Charles Francis Buddy (born October 4, 1887 in Saint Joseph , Missouri , USA; † March 6, 1966 in Banning , California , USA) was a Roman Catholic bishop of San Diego .

Life

Charles Francis Buddy was ordained a priest on September 19, 1914 in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome . From then on he worked as a priest in his hometown of Saint Joseph .

On October 31, 1936, Pope Pius XI appointed him . first bishop of the newly established diocese of San Diego . The bishop of Saint Joseph , Charles Hubert Le Blond , ordained him bishop on December 21 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Gerald Thomas Bergan , Bishop of Des Moines , and Francis Joseph Monaghan , Coadjutor Bishop of Ogdensburg .

Buddy was inducted into office on February 3, 1937. He was honored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews for his services to good relations between people. Pope Paul VI appointed him papal assistant to the throne .

In March 1966, Buddy visited inland southern California communities; on the evening of March 5, he arrived in Banning , Riverside County , then part of the diocese of San Diego. The bishop died of a heart attack the following day. Buddy was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego.
