Bishopric of Saint Joseph
The former diocese of Saint Joseph , located around Saint Joseph , Missouri , was removed from the Archdiocese of Saint Louis on March 3, 1868 and was from now on belonged to its ecclesiastical province . On June 16, 1911 it received the counties of Adair , Chariton , Clark , Knox , Lewis , Macon , Marion , Monroe , Ralls , Randolph and Shelby from the area of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis .
The 18,206 square miles of large Bistum counted 1950 32 563 (5.1%) in 65 Catholic parishes with 82 diocesan priests , 49 religious priests and 354 nuns . As early as July 2, 1956, however, his area was divided between the newly established bishoprics of Jefferson City and Springfield-Cape Girardeau and the bishopric itself, with a remaining area, merged with the diocese of Kansas City to form the current diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph .
