Charles Nicolas d'Anthouard de Vraincourt , rarely Charles Nicolas Danthouard (born April 7, 1773 in Verdun , † March 14, 1852 in Paris ) was a French general de division of the artillery .

Life

Anthouard de Vraincourt comes from an old family of officers; his grandfather was the aide-de-camp of King Charles XII. and his father led a regiment in Picardy . On September 1, 1787 Anthouard de Vraincourt joined with fourteen years as a cadet at the Military School of Pont-à-Mousson one.

He was able to distinguish himself very quickly and switched to the royal artillery in 1789 and on May 18, 1792 he was promoted to captain . In 1793/94 he joined the Italian Army and fought under General François-Christophe Kellermann . After the Peace of Campo Formio (October 17, 1797) he was able to return to France.

When Napoleon was planning his Egyptian expedition in 1798 , Anthouard de Vraincourt volunteered. He took part in the siege of Malta and the conquest of Alexandria , and fought valiantly in the Battle of the Pyramids (July 21, 1798). He was also able to distinguish himself through bravery during the sieges of al-Arish (February 1799), Jaffa (March 1799) and Acre (March / May 1799).

1801 Anthouard de Vraincourt could return to France again and was soon to Colonel promoted.

Under the leadership of Eugène de Beauharnais , whose aide-de-camp he had been for some time, Anthouard de Vraincourt fought near Raab (June 14, 1809) and Wagram (July 5-6, 1809).

Charles Nicolas d'Anthouard de Vraincourt died three weeks before his 79th birthday on March 14, 1852 in Paris and found his final resting place on the Cimetière Père Lachaise (Division 32).
