The rose variety 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh' (syn. 'AUSren', 'Rosarium Glücksburg') is a goblet-shaped, double, lilac-pink, often-flowering shrub rose that was introduced in Great Britain by David Austin in 1988 . The rose was bred from the pale pink English shrub rose 'Chaucer' ('AUScer') and the pink rugosa hybrid 'Conrad Ferdinand Meyer' and the pollen of the English shrub rose 'Mary Rose' ('AUSmary'). It belongs to the group of the rose family of the English old rose hydrides ('Mary Rose' - subgroup).
education
The rose variety 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh' forms a strong bush with many thin shoots, which are covered with numerous small, pointed spines. The rose plant is about 90 cm to 150 cm high and 75 cm to 120 cm wide. The rose has 8 to 10 cm large, ruffled, bowl-shaped flowers with small, twisted inner petals. The color of the flowers varies depending on the weather from a dark lilac pink to a clear purple, sometimes with a grayish tinge. The rose is characterized by a long-lasting, subtle scent of old roses . Atypical for English roses, the 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh' has relatively small green leaves.
The lush, remounting rose is hardy ( USDA climate zones 5b to 10b). It blooms continuously from May to late summer and is resistant to the well-known rose diseases . The rose is suitable for planting mixed flower beds and cottage gardens .
The 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh' is in many Rosarien and gardens of the world, including the German Rosarium Dortmund, the Denver Botanic Garden, at the Huntington Botanical Gardens archives, Les Chemins de la Rose in Maine-et-Loire , in the rose garden Petrović or shown at the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden.
Naming
The rose was named after the Scottish designer and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh , one of the most influential exponents of the Art and Crafts movement .
