action

Three young women were sentenced to death in the infamous Manson murder case. Then, however, when the death penalty is lifted and their sentence is commuted to life imprisonment, they are asked to face what they have done.

Biographical

Leslie Van Houten was involved in a series of murders commissioned by cult leader Charles Manson in 1969

Leslie Van Houten was involved in a series of murders commissioned by the cult leader Charles Manson in 1969 , including the murder of the businessman Leno LaBianca and his wife. After Van Houten and other members of the Manson family were arrested for car theft in October 1969, they boasted about the murders they had committed, whereupon the first major Manson trial began in July 1970. The process turned into a spectacle. At Manson's instructions, Van Houten got up during the trial, as did Manson supporters Susan Atkins and Patricia Krenwinkel and screeched hysterically. After Manson shaved his head, the young women did the same. Even when he scratched a cross on his forehead. Van Houten and Krenwinkel were sentenced to death in 1971 for their act. The death penalty was briefly suspended in 1972 in California and the sentences were subsequently commuted to life imprisonment. While the young women still stood by Manson during the trial, whom they venerated as "Jesus Christ", they later distanced him and regretted their actions. In January 2019, a parole board in the state of California recommended the release of 69-year-old Leslie Van Houten. This is the third time since 2016 that the committee has spoken out in favor of her release from prison.

Reginald Harkema processed the deeds and the subsequent trial of Van Houten in the Canadian thriller Leslie, My Name Is Evil from 2009.
