Charlotte Dobson (born June 5, 1986 in Glasgow , Scotland , United Kingdom ) is a British sailor who took part in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro .

In Glasgow studied born Dobson psychology at the University of Edinburgh .

Dobson was inducted into Scotland's national sailing team at the age of 14. In 2001 she won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in the laser radial class ; in 2002 and 2004 she won the silver medal. In 2005, ISAF was seventh in the world rankings and in 2007 it was tenth at the ISAF World Sailing Championships held in Portugal . She was reserved for the British Olympic team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , but lost to Penny Clark in the final .

In 2010 she won the silver medal at the European Championships in Estonia. At the ISAF World Sailing Championships 2011 Dobson was 16th in the women's competition in their boat class. She tried to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in the individual competition, but was defeated in the selection decision by Alison Young in the regatta in front of Hyères .

In 2013, she teamed up with Sophie Ainsworth to sail in the 49erFX class . The couple won a bronze medal at the World Cup in Mallorca and in 2014 finished sixth at the European Championships in Helsinki, Finland .

At the 2015 49erFX World Championships in San Isidro , Argentina, Dobson and Ainsworth finished fifth, missing a medal by four points.

In March 2016, Dobson and Ainsworth were nominated for the British Olympic team to take part in the first ever 49erFX competition at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . In April, the couple finished fifth in the opening race of the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma , but then had technical problems in the second race. They finished sixth in the overall standings after finishing second in the final. At the 49er European Championships in Barcelona , Ainsworth and Dobson finished ninth.

In the Olympic sailing competitions in their class, the couple finally reached eighth place.
